Winter's Shadow

Winter’s snow
Brings a sorrowful pull
Waiting for warmth to return
Counting losses
Her heart beat pauses
As ice creeps in from the window

Thoughts move faster
In a mind like plaster
Stuck
Running in circles again
But stars still shine
As darkness unwinds
It’s just a little chill from the weather

Nights spent waking
From nightmares
Left shaken
She watches the moon's graceful shadow
Tiredly staring
Through the smile she’s wearing
A melancholy song plays on.
